Teacher Bio Mrs. Williams is the theatre educator at Somerset Silver Palms Middle and High School. She is certified to teach theatre, exceptional students and is endorsed in reading and ESOL. She attended Miami- Dade College and Florida International University's Theatre Department. She was awarded scholarships from Walt Disney for the University of Central Florida and was offered a full-ride scholarship to Florida School of the Arts. She continues her education through professional developments, with her recent Ann Derflinger scholarship where she was awarded as a member of the Florida Association for Theatre Educators to attend a workshop this past summer at the Broadway Teaching Group in New York City's Open Jar Studios. She has taught for ten years at Somerset Conservatory of the Arts in Chapel Trail, Miami Arts Studio and Coral Reef Senior High School. Her students have been accepted into prestigious performing arts programs such as the University of California Los Angeles, Berklee, New York University, University of Central Florida, University of Florida, Florida State University, Florida Atlantic University, University of Miami, Florida International University and New World School of the Arts. They have received awards and scholarships such as Silver Knight, YoungArts, Posse, Thespian Critic's Choices and a Florida Theatre Conference honorable mention. She is an adjudicator and troupe sponsor for South Florida's Thespians competition festivals and has directed numerous one- act plays, full-length plays, original student written plays, musicals and showcases throughout her teaching career. Extremely passionate about directing, she encourages growth for the student performer and technician by creating opportunities for each student to feel comfortable and find their passion in the theatre classroom. Believing that each student can find their passion through exploring new technical and character roles, the theatre classroom can be a second home for every student. Focusing on creative writing and original student- written plays, in her classroom students have the opportunities to see their words come to life on the stage. Students direct, design, build and create as a team effort where the success of one is the success of all.
