Vocabulary WEEK TWO: man, manu Quiz Friday!!

1. man, manu (root word) hand

2. Emancipate (verb) To set free; to lend a hand in freeing someone Example: My teenage son stopped asking me to emancipate him when he realized the ruling would require him to pay his own bills.

3. Manacles (noun) handcuffs Example: If the hostage can remove the manacles chaining him to the wall, he will be able to escape his kidnappers.

4. manager (noun) a person who has the upper hand; a person who is in charge of someone or something Example: I could not take a lunch break until my manager closed my register.

5. mandate (Noun) An order or command placed in one’s hands Example: Without a court mandate, the landlord cannot evict his tenant.

6. Maneuver (Verb) To handily or skillfully go around something Example: The racecar driver struggled to maneuver his car into first place on the last lap.

7. manicure (noun) A treatment for the hands and nails Example: Carmen ran her manicured hands through her cropped off curls.
