#Finding a common story Linking Images #Finding a common story This presentation starts with participants reflecting on the meaning of individual pictures. It will become clear to them that one picture can have different meanings. After that, groups of pictures are shown to explain that: There are different ways to depict a common theme By showing a combination of pictures it can be easier to explain a certain theme. See the photovoice manual for all the objectives of this presentation.

What else could they depend on? When we look at a photograph, we ‘scan’ the image looking for meaning: symbols, codes, things that we recognise and help us to understand and interpret the photograph. What these codes are depends on our culture, our experiences, our age … What else could they depend on? Other examples: gender, education, the way you were raised.. To give an example with this slide you can explain that a picture of a mobile phone can bring up positive reactions in young people, but maybe fear in older people who do not understand how to use a phone.
