Matthew 19

Not All Can Receive The Truth (Mt. 19:11) I. SOME TRY THE LORD (19:3). A. Sinful trying of God (Deut. 6:16; Ex. 17:7; Num. 14:1-4) 1. Lacked faith in spite of evidence! 2. Looked for easier way, rather than the right way. B. Righteous trying of God (Judges 6:17-24, 36-40) 1. Sought evidence for their faith. 2. Accepted truth, even when it was difficult. C. Application: 1. Do we pray for stronger faith, but set aside our Bibles (Rom. 12:2)? 2. Do we profess sincerity, maturity, faithfulness, yet neglect things that prove it (2 Cor. 8:8)?

Not All Can Receive The Truth (Mt. 19:11) II. EX: DIVORCE & REMARRIAGE (19:3-10). A. What were they seeking? Not Truth! 1. What are we seeking? Truth? Justify self? 2. If Truth, then Jesus gave it (19:3-9). B. The Truth Applied: 1. If one divorces the other (not for fornication) he sins (19:6, 9a). 2. If mutually agree to divorce (not for fornication) both sin (19:6, 9a). 3. Any divorce (not for fornication), involves all who remarry in adultery (19:9a & b). 4. Only the spouse who puts away the fornicator can remarry with God’s approval (19:9a).

Not All Can Receive The Truth (Mt. 19:11) II. EX: DIVORCE & REMARRIAGE (19:3-10). C. If remarriage would be adultery, it is better not to marry (19:10-12). III. “ALL CANNOT ACCEPT THIS SAYING” (19:11-12) A. Why can’t all men receive this truth (19:11-12)? B. Need humility & submission to enter (19:13-15; 18:1-5). C. Those who love the world cannot enter (19:16-26; 1 John 2:15-17). D. Those who put spiritual things first, will enter (19:27-30).

Not All Can Receive The Truth (Mt. 19:11) CONCLUSION: 1. Some try the Lord, in spite of evidence. - Do we? 2. Some seek self-justification rather than Truth. - Do we? 3. Some put Christ above all else. - Do we?
