Knowledge Transfer, IFIN-HH @ CERN (RECFA visit to Romania, Bucharest 23-24.03.2018) Dan Enache PhD Head of CTTM IFIN-HH © CTTM IFIN-HH 2018

A. HEPTECH HEPTech (High Energy Physics Technology Transfer Network) had a crucial role in the developing of IFIN’s TTO. One of the major objectives of HEPTech is related to the development of technology transfer capacity among the members of the network having as staring point the expertise of the developed TTO’s. The Center for Technology Transfer and Marketing of IFIN-HH is one of the so called "early stages" TTO’s. Even so IFIN-HH is one of the most active participants in HEPTech programs and activities. © CTTM IFIN-HH 2018

Main challenges and results Using the expertise of other "advanced" TTO’s, participating in specialized sections of the network for “acquiring best practices” “Learning”, the process of acquiring the fundamentals of knowledge transfer - the vehicle for commercially applied research Organizing symposiums at CERN and in some of the advanced TTO offices on issues of: intellectual property rights and protection, including patent and licensing, licenses negotiation open innovation (open software and hardware) technological assessment, composition and structure of TTO etc © CTTM IFIN-HH 2018

Main challenges and results (continued) As country representative, the TTO of IFIN-HH shared the acquired knowledge to other research institutes and SMEs by hosting seminars / events in Romania in order to disseminate knowledge transfer activities and procedures, like “CERN -Romania Workshop” of November 20, 2012, the Industrial Forum " Academia Meets Industry ", October 7-8, 2013 Development of entrepreneurial and communication capabilities of young researchers, in order to stimulate the creation of spin-offs and startups by organizing annual training courses / seminars lasting one week each in several member states partially funded by HEPTech. Romania hosted the HEPTech Symposium 2016 in Sinaia, a very successful event (CERN Courier, Aug 12, 2016). © CTTM IFIN-HH 2018

Conclusions Our participation at HEPTech is considered the corner stone of the development of the IFIN-HH’s TT Office. The process had to continue as there are still important discrepancies in the network between the “early stage” and the “experienced (older)” nodes. CERN and the “older” TTO’s have to empower their role in supporting the less experienced and newer members of HEPTech The implementation of the Extreme Light Infrastructure (ELI) projects in Romania, Czech Republic and Hungary will boost HEPTech role in helping the set up and start their new TT Offices © CTTM IFIN-HH 2018

B. KT Forum (ex ENET) Brings together CERN’s Knowledge Transfer group and Technology Transfer representatives from each Member State Objectives sharing with external partners CERN’s technology portfolio, Easy Access IP and Open Hardware License. IFIN-HH became in 2012 the country representative in ENET Our task is to insure a better information regarding CERN’s patents and technologies and identifying interested companies in developing their cooperation with CERN © CTTM IFIN-HH 2018
