2019 School Census Removed Data Items Proficiency in English The collection of Proficiency in English is no longer required and is therefore removed from the school census with immediate effect. Schools are therefore no longer required to assess a child’s proficiency in English for purpose of transmitting to the department via the school census

DfE Validation Files The XLST file, used for validation and the creation of the Census Summary files, was not provided in time for inclusion in the Summer 2019 release. A file has now been provided, in order to carry out these procedures, but will need to be imported manually into SIMS.
DfE Validation Files If you run Create and Validate or try and produce the Census Summary report, before importing the Fileset, you will receive the following messages respectively: We will provide the DfE Validation as soon as possible after the point where the DfE provide the XSLT file to us We will provide the DfE Summary Report as soon as possible after the point where the DfE provide the XSLT file to us

School Workforce Census It is vital that the data is checked carefully before submission, to ensure that all required data is included and to ensure ALL current staff have a Contract and are on the correct Pay Scales We would highly recommend the Workforce Member Area Details Report as a good checking report to ensure all the correct staff are included in the Census return

Pupil Premium Reminder In mid July, as the many schools were finishing for Summer, the DfE made available the 2019/20 Pupil Premium data download file In order for the file to be imported, SIMS has to be on the Summer Release V7.188
Pupil Premium Reminder Notes on how to import the file are available on the Pennine Education website and on First Class in The Pennine Education portal All schools should import this file to ensure that SIMS is up to date for the 2019/20 Academic year and matches the DfE Pupil Premium allocation

POWER BI Power BI is Microsoft product that enables raw data to be displayed graphically. Pennine Education will be providing a sample “dashboard” free of charge to introduce schools to the software

CTF Contact Matching Issue You will have received information from Pennine Education regarding the potential issues with mismatched contact data in SIMS, where CTF’s have been imported to the SIMS database.
CTF Issue The following process must be followed as a matter of urgency by ALL SCHOOLS:- Apply a SIMS Workstation Patch 25130 Run the SIMS Diagnostics Script Check 100 Check & Correct any data in SIMS - if required
CTF Issue Due to the issues we have had over the last 2 years with contacts in ctf’s we are strongly recommending that the tick is removed from contacts when importing ctf’s. This is done by Tools\ Setups\CTF

Software Update Assessment It is now possible to display Medical Conditions as an additional student information column and when applying a group filter to a marksheet. Reporting The Report browser now displays the number of times a report has been run (Times Accessed) and the date on which the report was Last Accessed. These columns remain blank until the report is run.
Software Update Continued Sims Core Across the Special Educational Needs area in SIMS, and other pupil related areas, some of the Gifted & Talented, Gifted and G&T screen labels have been changed to reflect More Able (and Talented).
Software Update Continued Enrolment Status When changing a pupil's enrolment status from On-Roll to Guest, the warning message now informs you that to retain the pupil’s attendance marks, you must make them a leaver before re-admitting them as a Guest. If you proceed, all stored session attendance marks will be deleted from SIMS. This process cannot be reversed.
Software Update Continued Enrolment Status Additionally, when changing a pupil's enrolment status from Guest to On-Roll, the warning message now advises you to update registers because session attendance marks are required from the date of the pupil's admission as a Guest.
Software Update Continued The Additional persons at this address table has been added to the Addresses panel on the pupil record. Any parents, applicants, staff or other contacts who share the same address as the pupil are displayed. A warning message is now displayed when changing the pupil's current address, indicating that all other people registered at this address will be affected by the change.

FMS Software update New VAT Full Report for Making Tax Digital (MTD) To enable schools, LAs and Academy Trusts to meet the new government requirements in relation to Making Tax Digital, the VAT Full Report (MTD) report has been provided in the revised reporting engine. This does not replace the current VAT Full report, which can still be used.
FMS Software Update New VAT Submittal Report for Making Tax Digital (MTD) To enable schools, LAs and Academy Trusts to meet the new government requirements in relation to Making Tax Digital, the VAT Submittal Report (MTD) report has been provided in the revised reporting engine and can be output multiple times, if required. This does not replace the current VAT Submittal report, which can still be used. Once you click the Submit button, the VAT period will be closed and no further transactions can be posted to this VAT period.
FMS Software Update New Making Tax Digital (MTD) Application An FMS Making Tax Digital application is being further developed to receive VAT data digitally from FMS. We intend to release the updated MTD application in early Autumn 2019 for VAT-registered customers.
FMS Software Update Mapping VAT Ledger Codes to the Appropriate HMRC VAT Return 9 Box Grid Tools | General Ledger Setup – the VAT Consolidation Code field has been added to the VAT ledger code setup. This field enables users to map their VAT ledger codes to the appropriate HMRC VAT Return 9 Box Grid. Guidance on how to populate this field will be provided when the FMS6 MTD application is available
SIMS Finance Academies are now able to purchase SIMS Finance. Capita recommend that this is purchased at financial year end as there is no migration process.

Team News Rebecca will be leaving on Maternity leave at the end of September. We have a new member of staff who started with us on the 1st September 2019. Troy Daly. Troy previously worked as the Data Manager at Oasis Academy Oldham and has a wealth of experience working with Sims. He will be an excellent addition to the Team.
Accreditation Capita Accreditation has been extended for a further year and therefore the team will be Accredited next year instead of this year.

Support Renewal Renewals for April 2020 An email will be sent in October to request up to date pupil numbers. If you wish to cancel your Agreement this must be received by 31.12.2019 The Renewal Agreement must be signed and returned by 31.1.2020 If schools sign up for 3 years a discount will be offered Invoices will be raised at the beginning of March 2020 for payment before 1st April 2020 Please can we ask you to share your experience with schools you know are with other Service Providers.
