Romans 10:1-13

How Do You Get a Heart Like That? Romans 9:1-3

Romans 10:1 Brothers and sisters, my heart’s desire and prayer to God for the Israelites is that they may be saved.

Matthew 5:44-45 “But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, 45 that you may be children of your Father in heaven. He causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous.”

Romans 2:4 (NLT) Don’t you see how wonderfully kind, tolerant, and patient God is with you? Does this mean nothing to you? Can’t you see that his kindness is intended to turn you from your sin?

People who live IN or AROUND my “home” (neighbors). People with whom I WORK or go to SCHOOL. People with whom I SOCIALIZE—at clubs, social gatherings, community & sporting events, etc. People I know CASUALLY within any given week or month.

What you know about someone will affect your praying.

YOU Name A B

“You know, I like to pray for people I work with/live around/am friends with/etc. Is there anything in your life right now that you’d like God to help you with?”

Your day in 10-minute increments… Think you could give just 1 to love your neighbors through prayer?

What to pray…for YOURSELF: God’s help to be CONSISTENT & FAITHFUL “The most important appointment I have today is my appointment with Jesus in prayer.”

Susanna Wesley (1669-1742)

What to pray…for YOURSELF: God’s help to be CONSISTENT & FAITHFUL OPPORTUNITIES & BOLDNESS to talk about Christ

Colossians 4:2-3 And pray for us, too, that God may open a door for our message, so that we may proclaim the mystery of Christ, for which I am in chains. 4 Pray that I may proclaim it clearly, as I should. (See also Ephesians 6:19-20)

What to pray…for OTHERS: That God will heal their spiritual blindness. 2 Corinthians 4:4—The god of this age has blinded the minds of unbelievers, so that they cannot see the light of the gospel that displays the glory of Christ, who is the image of God.

What to pray…for OTHERS: That they will be moved to begin/continue to ask themselves important questions: What is my purpose in life? Why am I here? What will happen to me when I die? Why does so much in my life not satisfy?

Romans 10 Brothers and sisters, my heart’s desire and prayer to God for the Israelites is that they may be saved. 2 For I can testify about them that they are zealous for God, but their zeal is not based on knowledge.

Romans 10 3 Since they did not know the righteous-ness of God and sought to establish their own, they did not submit to God’s righteousness. 4 Christ is the culmination of the law so that there may be righteousness for everyone who believes.

Romans 10:5 (quoting Leviticus 18:5) “For Moses writes about the righteousness that is based on the law, that the person who does these things [the commandments] shall live by them.”

Romans 10 (quoting Deut. 30:11-14) 6 But the righteousness that is by faith says: “Do not say in your heart, ‘Who will ascend into heaven?’” (that is, to bring Christ down) 7 “or ‘Who will descend into the deep?’” (that is, to bring Christ up from the dead).

Romans 10 8 But what does it say? “The word is near you; it is in your mouth and in your heart,”

Romans 10 8 But what does it say? “The word is near you; it is in your mouth and in your heart,” 9 If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved.

Romans 10 11 As Scripture says, “Anyone who believes in him will never be put to shame.” 12 For there is no difference between Jew and Gentile—the same Lord is Lord of all and richly blesses all who call on him, 13 for, “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”
