Welcome to Mr. Dossous Algebra I www.myflteacher.com Open House Wednesday, October 8, 2018

Here at North Miami we aspire to be… On time (School starts at 7:20 AM SHARP! Be in class, ready to learn) Prepared (Have school supplies and completed assignments) Respectful (To self, peers, teachers, security and staff) In uniform (Make sure you are dressed for success in your school uniform) Positive (Have a good attitude about learning and think highly of yourself and your school)

Classroom Expectations: 1) Always be on task. 2) Not distract other students. 3) Ask questions when they do not understand. 4) Take clear notes. 5) Have integrity. 6) Think carefully about each problem. 7) Do all homework. 8) Never give up. 9) Respect themselves, other students, and the teacher. 10) Be successful.

COURSE GOALS:   Prepare students to be successful on the End-of-Course (EOC) Florida Standards Assessment in Algebra 1 at the end of the year. (passing 90%) To understand and be able to do all types of problems related to the Florida Algebra 1 Standards. Train students to work hard and think critically in order to be successful at math. Develop important mathematical concepts. Emphasize student thinking, student activities, and student products. Make connections with the real world, with other disciplines, and in particular with science.

EOC End of Course Exam (eoc) Algebra I has an EOC at the end of the year. The EOC will drive everything that we do throughout the year. The students will be exposed to EOC-type questions throughout the year and will learn all of the material necessary to excel on the test. The EOC will be representative of how well the students have mastered the material. According to the state rules, if the students do not pass the EOC, they cannot pass Algebra I and will have to retake the course during the summer. The EOC is a big deal and should not be taken lightly.

EOC The State of Florida is phasing in new, additional graduation requirements. The students who enter ninth grade will be taking FSA(Florida Standard Assessment) EOC Algebra I. http://fsassessments.org/

Curriculum: Shifts Related to the Common Core State Standards Mathematics: real-world problem solving, application of concepts, fluency and automaticity with facts, deep understanding, math practice standards (ex. make sense and persevere in solving problems)
