EDEXCEL INTERNATIONAL GCSE ISLAMIC STUDIES The Articles of Faith

Belief in Angles and Devine Books Angels are made of light Nature Of Angels Belief in angles is second article of faith. Angels are special creations of Allah. they are made of light (Nur). Angels act as Allah’s messengers They are intermediaries between God and His creation. Angels are sinless beings. They obey Allah’s commands. Angels never fail in their duties. Angels do not have any knowledge except what Allah has given them. Angels are made of light

Angels protect believers, “But verily over you (are appointed angels) to protect you.” (Al- Infitar 82.10) They strengthen hearts of righteous believers. they help the believers. They cast terror into hearts of non believers.. They ask Allah’s forgiveness for believers and send blessings on them. They act as messengers of Allah, but they do not descend without His permission, “Therein come down the angels and the Spirit by Allah’s permission on every errand.” ( 97:4)

Angels do not have a free will. Angels have been bestowed with the necessary qualities and powers to carry out their duties. Angels do not have a free will. Angels have wings. Allah says, “Praise be to Allah Who created (out of nothing) the heavens and the earth Who made the angels messengers with wings two or three or four (Pairs.).” (Q-Al-Fatir)

Functions Of Angles They glorify Him day and night, sing His praises and prostrate before Him, Allah says, “Those who are near to your Lord disdain not to do Him worship: They celebrate His praises and bow down before Him.” (Al-A’raf 7:206) Some circumambulate His throne. They obey Allah’s commands Angels never fail in their duties.

PROMINENT ANGELS Angel Gabriel Angel Israfeil Angel Izrael Angel Mikael Kiram-il Kattibin Rizwan Maalik

Functions Of Prominent Angels Angel Gabriel brought the message of Allah to the prophets. Angel Israfeil is Angel of Soor (trumpet). The Angel Izrael is angel of death. Angel Mikael provides provision to people; he is responsible to cause the rainfall and wind to blow. Kiram-il Kattibin record deeds of a person. Ridwan is in-charge Paradise. Maalik is in- charge of hell.

Munkar and Nakeer question deeds of a person in the grave. The Prophet (p.b.u.h) said, “When a faithful believer is made to sit in his grave, then (the angels) come to him and he testifies that none has the right to be worshipped but Allah and Muhammad is Allah’s Apostle. And that corresponds to Allah’s statement: Allah will keep firm those who believe with the word that stands firm . . . (14.27).” (Sahih Bukhari)

The Revealed Books. Divine books are source of Guidance for mankind. Muslims believe in all the Divine origin of all the books sent to the previous prophet These Books are:- The Zabur (Psalms) was sent to Daud (David). The Injil (Bible) was sent to ’Isa (Jesus). The Tawrat (Torah) was sent to Musa (Moses). The Qur’an was sent to Muhammad (p.b.u.h) . The Qur’an also mentions the Suhaf (scroll) of Ibrahim.

The Devine Books

All the books were changed and corrupted except the Qur’an. The Suhaf of Ibrahim was lost. The Torah, the Zabur and the Injil were changed and modified. the languages of these books are dead languages. They were revealed to a particular nation for a particular period of time. They contained a code of morality and justice, but they were not comprehensive and do not contain a complete code of life Scroll of Ibrahim

FEATURES OF THE QURAN The Qur’an contains complete code of life. It is for all people for all times. It is unchanged. Allah says, “We have without doubt sent down the Message; and We will assuredly guard it (from corruption).” (AL-Hjjr 15:9)
