Iroquois and the United States: Similarities Both are Representative Governments Women (Iroquois) or citizens (U.S.) choose leaders to represent and make decisions for the entire group Broken up into smaller groups (tribes or states) Worked together against a common enemy (Algonquians or Great Britain)

Let’s Make a Decision, Iroquois Confederacy Style! Members of your enemy, the Algonquin tribe, have been sneaking into your longhouses and stealing the deer and moose meat that your tribe members worked hard to get. Should you go to war or negotiate a treaty? Each group of tribes should decide what the Iroquois should do, and why. After, we will see if everyone has agreed on how the Algonquins should be stopped!

Representative Government Can you guess which vocabulary word the following definition belongs to? “A government in which people choose leaders to make decisions for them” ANSWER: Representative Government
