The Project ESSPER was born in 1995 on the initiative of Piero Cavaleri director of the "Mario Rostoni" Library of Carlo Cattaneo University of Castellanza and involved immediately, as members, the other Lombardy libraries specialized in economics and social subjects. 21/09/2019 Cinzia Fortuzzi

A Simple Idea ESSPER is acronym of “Economia e scienze sociali: periodici” The plan ESSPER is based on the participation of the single libraries: the librarians create, voluntarily and without any charge, the data-base with the analytical titles of the periodicals of their libraries. 21/09/2019 Cinzia Fortuzzi

Mission The purpose is to provide instruments for information retrieval in the Italian language periodical literature for the economy and social sciences. Unlike the Angloamerican literature, we can find little news on it on the Internet. 21/09/2019 Cinzia Fortuzzi

History 2000 - the data-base ESSPER law (previously implemented from the CNR) became operative 2001 - proposal for the creation of ESSPER working papers. Library Cooperation ESSPER constantly supports the cooperation between the participating libraries, and particularly interlibrary loan and document delivery. It has created a rich network of relationships all around the national territory among many kinds of libraries (university libraries, documentation centers, etc.) Also one foreign library; the university Library of Lugano, situated in the Italian Canton Ticino of the Helvetic Confederation, is member of ESSPER. Management The programs allow for inserting and managing the resources in remote access on the part of participating libraries. The most demanding and onerous task is the supervision and maintenance of the server that contains the archives (situaded in the LIUC). 21/09/2019 Cinzia Fortuzzi
