Meet the Teacher 2019 Year 3

Who’s Who? I’m Miss O’Neill and I am the class teacher of Year 3 Fox Class. Every Tuesday Fox Class will be taught by Mrs Mills. Mrs Jones is the Teaching Assistant who works across all of Key Stage 2.

A busy year ahead!! We start this year with: Topic 1 (until half term)-Urban Pioneers. Most sessions are linked to this theme, including our Science, Topic and Art lessons. This term we will explore poetry, information leaflets and descriptive writing associated with the topic.

General Information Homework – Set on a Wednesday, must be completed by Monday. Children are given a piece of Maths and English homework as well as weekly spellings. These spellings are part of the Year 3 National Curriculum and will be tested every Monday. P.E – Full P.E. kit must be worn for both indoor and outdoor lessons. Our current P.E. lessons are on Tuesdays and Thursdays. School uniform- From Year 3 onwards students must wear a tie and shirt as well as the Sherford jumper/cardigan. Reading – every night and guided reading twice a week in school. Children will get the chance to change their books and complete ‘Accelerated Reader’ quizzes during the school day.

Swimming Years 3 and 4 have the fantastic opportunity of 30 minute daily swimming lessons from 23rd September to 11th October! These lessons will take place at Plymouth Life Centre and will be taught by highly trained and qualified teachers. We ask that hair be tied up and all jewellery removed. Boys’ swim shorts should be above the knee and girls must wear one piece costumes. Goggles are allowed during lessons.

What can you do? The importance of parents, carers, teachers and children working together is invaluable, especially at this crucial time! Read with your child regularly. Encourage children to complete home learning and always learn basic skills. Get your child to school on time and regularly. Learning doesn’t just happen in school!

Thank you for listening and I look forward to meeting you again throughout the year!
