Presentation transcript:

How my relationships and environment can affect who I am:

~Family~ Can support, encourage and compliment you. Rules and guidelines allow you to figure out your place in the world. Model a healthy self-image Built in support system which makes you feel safe, even when you make mistakes. Set expectations and goals you can reach Note: Family can also negatively influence your self- concept and self- esteem.

~Media~ Often gives us images of perfection that we can’t live up to. Negative role models that we could aspire to be like. There is a movement to make us more aware of these issues and to include people who aren’t all ‘perfect.’ Do you feel this movement has been successful?

~Friends~ Can support you and accept you for who you are; encourage you to make healthy choices OR Can ask you to change and make unhealthy choices that could negatively effect your self-esteem.
