636,000 adults and 36,000 youth live with diagnosable mental illnesses in South Carolina (2017) State of Mental Health by Mental Health America How many of you all like football? Clemson holds- 81,500 (top is 86000) & USC holds- 80,250 (you could fill either over EIGHT times with adults & youth living with mental illness in our state) DIAGNOSABLE per SAMHSA Mental illness is more prevalent than the general media and the public think. The more awareness we bring to the mental health conversation, the more apt people may become toward getting help. The average time a person waits before seeking treatment is 10 years. As with any illness the longer treatment is delayed, the more serious symptoms can become.
