We’re All in Kahoots: Tool for active learning and assessment Professor Jeffrey Delgado Reader Services Librarian CUNY Kingsborough Community College

Are students paying attention? Discuss the problem with one shot presentations- the lack of enthusiasm- etc.

Definitions Information Literacy As ALA defines it, information literacy is a set of abilities where individuals “recognize when information is needed and have the ability to locate, evaluate, and use effectively the needed information.” To be information literate, then, one needs skills not only in research but in critical thinking Assessment The process of determining how well an educational system functions and improving parts of it as necessary What should students learn? How well are they learning it? How does the instructor adapt to changing learning goals?

Why Kahoot? Kahoot is a game-based learning platform It provides a fresh take on information literacy classes It engages with students Lastly, it generates reports on every session

Different types of games

Reports are generated automatically after each session

Kahoot Questions How awake are you? Where do you go for textbooks? What do you need to have to access the library? How can you tell if a source is credible? What is peer review? Where can I go for help in the library? What can you do with databases that you cannot do with websites? How should I approach a research question? Should I rely on Wikipedia as a source?

OVERALL PERFORMANCE
