Bringing Zonta Into New Territories

Space the Final Frontier I like using the phrase Captain Kirk uses in Star Trek which he repeats in each episode. Space the Final Frontier: These are the voyages of the starship Enterprise. Its five-year mission: to explore strange new worlds ; to seek out life and new civilizations; to boldly go where no man has gone before.

This is not the end for Zonta as we prepare to Celebrate Zonta 100 years. However, we are preparing to take Zonta forward for years to come by exploring New Territories. What are the Territories we want to explore? Let us discuss what areas/cities/towns/ in the states and provinces that already exist in our World (Zonta). Where some Zonta clubs already exist they could build more clubs, thereby focusing on their own communities, working with likeminded organization, other clubs, networking, collaborations/partnerships. Because these clubs exist we need to further tap in to see people, places and resources we have missed as a New Territory. What states in the US and provinces in Canada do not have Zonta Clubs? It is here we bring Zonta to build more clubs. In doing so as Captain Kirk says “to seek out life and new civilizations.” More clubs in New Territories. Using the phrase from Star Trek I chose to breakdown as the springboard for our discussion this afternoon. How can we bring Zonta to these New Territories?

I used this phrase due to the fact it is parallel to Zonta’s mission for recruitment and retaining members. It is always an ongoing quest to seek new perspective zontains and find out the territories where they exist. We want to expose this organization, Zonta by demonstrating what we do globally and worldwide, but also in our clubs in our own communities. We need to go beyond the norm or easy route for the search to bring new members into our organization. Do we know what other organizations, women clubs and etc. that already exist to seek them out in hopes to collaborate/networking/ and become partners. What are the territories that already exist and how do we excess them? Discussion: We need to identify these other organization in our community. If we want to include more YWP, we need to attend events on college campuses, look at the women whom we have given scholarships to attend college/universities. Use them for a speaker bureau to share about how they found out about Zonta with their friends. We should attend activities they have already set up in the community which will attract millennials.
