English Daily Mile Maths Topic P.E Character Curriculum STEM This half term starts with the book ‘Ratpunzel’ by Charlotte Guillian. The children will learn to how to write a traditional tale but with an animal twist. They will then have to write their own expanded traditional tale and read it to younger children. The next book will be a non-fiction book about Deserts. The children will learn about the features of non-chronological report. The children will then apply this knowledge by creating their own non-chronological reports about an animal that lives in the desert. Daily Mile The children will be physically active (run, jog or walk) for 15 mins a day. Maths This half term will start with the children learning about equivalent fractions. The children will also learn how to add and subtract fractions with the same denominator. They then learn about time- how many days in a year, how to tell time to the nearest minute, comparing time durations and measuring time to the nearest minute. Topic The children will be learning about deserts this half term as it links to their work in English lessons. As part of this, we will learn the definition of a desert, understand the ways they are formed, locate major deserts around the World, know the weather and conditions of deserts and the ways in which they are used by humans. Year 3 – Summer 1 Topic: Deserts Big Question: What can survive in a desert? Wow Start: Stranded on a desert island Fantastic finish: Trip to Wisley P.E The children will be focusing on the ‘Physical cog’ in RealPE where they will develop skills that enable them to react and move quickly and with control. The other hour of PE will focus on developing the children’s athletic skills ready for sports day. PE Days (for both Attenborough & Potter): Monday- Swimming and Sports Day practise Wednesday– REAL PE Character Curriculum This term we will be exploring the virtues of Courtesy, Forgiveness and Determination. The children will learn how to be courteous to visitors, why it is important to forgive and what to do if they don’t succeed at first. STEM This half term the children will continue to learn about plants. We will be looking at the life cycle of a flowering plant, how different plants disperse their seeds and how plants have adapted to grow in different conditions. Religious Education In RE lessons, the children will be learning about Judaism. They will be comparing it with Christianity.
