Language Policy LP 001 Language Philosophy The school language philosophy reflects the interests and views of the whole school community that enables students to learn in their medium of instruction and also their regional and national language. Language focuses not only in personality but by learning more than one language it can develop a person’s cognitive skills, learning more than one language is also important in social development of a person. The importance of language is essential to every aspect and interaction in our everyday lives. The QMIS language policy works within the framework of its vision and mission statements. It helps students recognize and appreciate the cultural diversity and promotes respect for all languages and communities. www.queenmira.com Page : 4

Language Policy The school has English as the medium of instruction, Hindi as the National language and Tamil as the regional language. French and Japanese are taught as foreign languages as the vision aims at creating Global citizens. The language skills are integrated with the Unit of inquiry. There are fixed times in the schedule to learn the host country language and regional language, in this case Hindi and Tamil. English Language is taken as the language of primary learning and teaching as it is a common language among many of the nations of the world and it is the language of the global economy. LP 002 Objectives of Language Philosophy To understand and recognize that language is essential for learning and helps in facilitating communication. Creating a learning environment where teachers are in practice, language teachers who are responsible impart the importance of language to the children. www.queenmira.com Page : 5

Language Policy To ensure that a student learns more than one foreign language apart from the first language, Regional language and National language. To enhance the admiration and respect for multilingualism across the school. To ensure that the Language policy is a working document, where the administrators, teaching and non teaching faculties are given professional development in the field of language learning and teaching. The school will form a dynamic committee to ensure the periodic review of the Language policy that involves all the stake holders. www.queenmira.com Page : 6

Language Policy LP 003 Strategies, Methods of Instruction, resources used in Language teaching and learning Students should be motivated to do some extra reading in the language they are studying and will also be awarded with marks. Students will be encouraged to make extensive use of the dictionary on a regular basis. Learning language is encouraged through observance of ‘Language Week’. Activities with instructions in different languages can be organized in the classroom if required. Learning should not confine only to textbooks.   www.queenmira.com Page : 7

Language Policy LP 004 Languages offered in QMIS English would be the language of instruction across the school. Tamil, Hindi and French will be offered as Second Language and the students will have the freedom to choose one of these. Japanese is taught as a Foreign Language from Grades 1 to Grade 8. As English is taken as the first language, children are exposed more to English and hence become fluent and confident in all the four skills of the Language- Listening, Speaking, Reading and writing. By teaching children Tamil and Hindi, children get proficient in their Regional and National language. French and Japanese are taught as foreign language as the children learn to speak and respect different languages and culture. This also opens the global door for their future. www.queenmira.com Page : 8
