Ms. Valentine Miami Carol City Senior High School September 24, 2019 Physical Science Open House

Welcome Parents! It is my pleasure to be teaching Physical Science and getting these young minds ready to move forward to Biology in 10 th grade. Some things to look forward to: Projects, Labs and a possible museum field trip (TBD).

A little about Ms. Valentine Education: BS in Biological Sciences – Florida Atlantic University I worked in the medical field for a number of years before transitioning into education. Teaching my coworkers and patients about the why’s of what we were doing, was one of my favorite parts of the job.

What is Physical Science? Foundation for studying more advanced sciences Introduction to Scientific Principles We begin with Chemistry, then some Physics, then prepare for Biology for the following year

Topics covered this year: First Semester Scientific Method Measurement Matter Temperature Behavior of Gases Atomic Structure Chemical Reaction Energy and Chemical Reactions Solutions Second Semester Motion Forces Energy Work and Machines Waves Sound and Light Electricity – Static Current Magnetism Ramping Up for Biology

How your students will be graded: Tests Labs Projects - to include “flipped classroom” Classwork Homework Quizzes Binder

How To Succeed In Physical Science? ATTENDANCE IS A MUST!!PAY ATTENTION IN CLASSSTUDY AND COMPLETE ALL WORKCOMMUNICATE WITH METUTORING IS AVAILABLE THURSDAY AFTERNOONS UNTIL 4PM

Average Day in Physical Science: There is always a Bellringer to get started on that will review the topic that was previously covered Take notes from a PowerPoint Class work – at times in groups to encourage collaboration – EVERYONE MUST PARTICIPATE!

Class Rules: Come to class on-time and be ready to work when the bell rings NO CELL PHONES unless it is part of the lesson Focus on the lesson and respect the teacher and classmates No profanity Participate in class– NO SLEEPING ALLOWED Work collaboratively and quietly.
