15% Solutions Big Impacts with Small Actions Claire Sauvé, VCC

Objectives In this workshop, we’ll brainstorm shared issues that we face within our institutions and identify some ‘15%’ solutions that we can take individually and/or collectively

Liberating Structures (liberatingstructures.com) … easy-to-learn microstructures that enhance relational coordination and trust. They quickly foster lively participation in groups of any size, making it possible to truly include and unleash everyone.

Liberating Structures (liberatingstructures.com)

Impromptu Networks is about tapping into a well of curiosity and talent by helping a group focus attention on problems they want to solve. Liberating structures

What big challenge do you face in your work? What strengths or qualities to you have to offer?

Instructions: Mingle around the room until you hear the bells. Spend ~2 minutes answering the questions, and then switch. When you hear the bells, mingle around the room and repeat. We’ll do three rounds

What big challenge do you face in your work? What strengths or qualities to you have to offer?

15% Solutions Most people have about 15-percent control over their work situations. The other 85 percent rests in the broader context, shaped by the general structures, systems, events and culture in which they operate. The challenge rests in finding ways of creating transformational change incrementally: By encouraging people to mobilize small but significant “15-percent initiatives” that can snowball in their effects. When guided by a sense of shared vision, the process can tap into the self-organizing capacities of everyone involved.  Gareth Morgan

15% Solutions is about changing the flow of the river by moving a few rocks.

15% Solutions is about changing the flow of the river by moving a few rocks. What is your 15 percent? Where do you have discretion and freedom to act? What can you do without more resources or authority?

Instructions: Each person generates his or her own list of 15% Solutions (5 min)   Individuals share their ideas with a small group (2 to 4 members) (3 min/person and one person at a time) Group members provide a consultation to one another (asking clarifying questions and offering advice) 5 to 7 min/person and one person at a time

Inspiring Ideas Did come up with ideas that you can bring back with you? Did you hear some ideas that you hadn’t thought of before?

Thank you! csauve@vcc.ca
