Khan Academy for after school support FRESNO UNIFIED 1

Primary objective: To equip you to use Khan Academy effectively with your students for homework support and enrichment

Outcomes: By understanding What Khan Academy is How FUSD students access it How can you can use it for homework/enrichment support

What is Khan Academy? A personalized practice resource across subjects and grades. Offers practice exercises, instructional videos, and a personalized dashboard to empower learners to study at their pace. First, what is Khan Academy? We’ve changed significantly since the days of it being almost exclusively math videos hosted on youtube.

Reaching every student at their own level THE CHALLENGE Reaching every student at their own level

THE SOLUTION An adaptive learning experience with content customized for each student

PERSONALIZED PRACTICE ACROSS SUBJECTS AND GRADES 10,000+ exercises, videos, and articles K-12 math, high school science, high school history, grammar, SAT, and more . Now, we have over 10,000 exercises, videos, and articles. Our resources cover K-12 math, high school science, high school history, SAT practice, grammar, and more. We’ve got problem sets, which we call exercises, videos, and articles, which often include embedded check-for-understanding questions. And we’re working hard to always improve our content. You may have seen that we announced recently a partnership with College Board to be the official practice partner for AP courses. That means that we’ll have fully-aligned and comprehensive practice resources for courses like AP English and AP Psychology throughout the next 2-3 years. Why does this matter? Well, I really liked the idea that I was exposing my students to a site and a resource that could help them beyond my class.

A self-paced practice platform START A MISSION A self-paced practice platform

Mission warm-up: Students must complete a brief warm-up to start a mission. Warm-up results will help adjust the mastery levels of some skills and will generate the first set of individualized, computer-generated recommendations.

Mission Progress: The percentage progress is Number of skills mastered or level two Total number of skills in mission

A student struggling with an exercise likely needs help. After scoring 70% or higher on an exercise, a student becomes “Practiced” in that exercise. The student must then take Mastery Challenges to continue to advance. Mastery Challenges mix together questions from different exercises and are spaced out across days. Taking Mastery Challenges is the only way for a student to achieve the level of “Mastered.”

Skill tiles: Every square represents a different skill in the mission. Hover over a square to see a preview of the exercise. Click the exercise to add it to the top of your “playlist”.
