National Eye Health Week PSHE – Health And Wellbeing Monday 23rd September – Sunday 29th September

Have you had your eyes tested? It is important to have your eyes tested regularly at least every 2 years to ensure your eyes stay healthy. Eyes tests ensure that if any problems are found they are treated early Eye tests are free for anyone under the age of 16, so if you are struggling to see properly tell your parents or a teacher so we can help you to make an appointment with an optician.

Do you have Good Vision? Watch this clip. What could you do to improve your eye health? Discuss this with a partner, then feedback to your form tutor https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B48f5HJpqq0tZklWVkhycE5aelU/view -

What can you do to keep your eyes healthy? Get your eyes tested – Every two years Eat a rainbow - eating a rainbow of colourful fruit and vegetables helps to ensure your eyes get the nutrients they need to grow healthily. Foods like tomatoes, melon, grapes and blueberries as well as fish, chicken, eggs and whole grains are packed with eye–friendly nutrients. Cover up - it’s really important to protect your eyes from the sun. When you’re young the lens at the front of the eye is really clear so can let even more of the damaging sunlight in. Protect your eyes even on cloudy days and check that your sunglasses have a ce; uv 400 or british standard mark as this will ensure they provide the right level of uv protection.

What can you do to keep your eyes healthy? Go Outdoors - research has shown that spending time outdoors, can be beneficial in helping to prevent the onset and progression of myopia (short-sightedness). So make sure you get out and get active every day. Act on advice - make sure you follow the advice of your optician to ensure the best possible treatment outcome. It’s also important that if you wear contact lenses you follow advice on how to wear and care for your contact lenses to keep your eyes safe and comfortable.

What to do next? If you haven’t had your eyes tested and you are struggling with your sight, tell your parents or a teacher and we can help you to organise an eye test.
