In non-profits, it is more commonly seen as an informal structure where the Executive is not the Chairperson of the Board, but is really acting like they are. Large faith based non-profits such as churches often find this happening. Problems: No checks and balances. Some For-Profit leaders are in jail for allowing investors to be harmed. Significant federal external regulation now in place; in fact it could be said that the government has now become the Board for these organizations. Boards should replicate the functions of the HOS.
