Annual Catch Estimates WCPFC Convention Area

Annual catch estimates must be provided for the other areas in some cases. Subarea needed for stock assessment purpose

Annual Catch Estimates Why ? Concise representation of actual catch (total removals) Snapshot comparison between years, fleets, gears, fisheries, etc. => indication of the trends over time Indication of all data collected in the tuna fishery Used to produce economic indicators (value of catch) All contained in the WCPFC Tuna Fishery Yearbook Totals removal: actual catch actually accounts for all fish that was caught and therefore removed from the stock (retained AND discarded) Value of catch: summary presented at the WCPFC, making use of the countries ACE Yearbook available for download from the Scientific Data section of WCPFC web site

CONSERVATION OF THE STOCKS Annual Catch Estimates Why ? CONSERVATION OF THE STOCKS DATA e.g. ACE ANALYSES Stock assessments In the end, better sustainability of tuna fisheries SCIENTIFIC ADVICE MANAGEMENT MEASURES

Annual Catch Estimates Raised catches – see Dorado Reports The higher the coverage, the closer to reality is the estimation

Annual Catch Estimates Call one of us if needed Category you fit into Action Logsheet coverage is very high in TUFMAN2 Follow Guidelines Logsheet coverage not so good in TUFMAN2 Follow Guidelines, then see SPC Very few data for my fleet See SPC My domestic fisheries are complex None of the above Observer data exist in TUFMAN2 Observer data doesn’t exist in TUFMAN2
