PENNSYLVANIA COLLEGE SYSTEMS

How many colleges are there in the United States? QUESTION How many colleges are there in the United States?

Overview In the United States, there are over 4,000 college options. Sorting all of those can be a big task. Today we will look at a way to sort these colleges much more easily.

First, all colleges can be classified as either PRIVATE or PUBLIC. Refresher: Public means: Private means: PUBLIC PRIVATE

Now that we can make that distinction, we can separate Private and Public colleges into further categories. We will be looking specifically at colleges in Pennsylvania. So that narrows our list from over 4,000 to about 260. Did you know that Pennsylvania is the third state with most colleges in the United States? (Second place: New York, First place: California) TO

Pennsylvania has four public systems Now that we have narrowed down our list to Pennsylvania schools, we can sort them by PUBLIC and PRIVATE. Pennsylvania has four public systems It’s important to understand the different systems. Each system has a set of similar requirements for its group of schools. Knowing which system meets your needs may help you develop a list of schools where to apply. We will be covering all the systems over the next two weeks. PUBLIC PRIVATE 1. Community College System 2. PASSHE System 3. Penn State System 4. State- related schools
