USE WIKIPEDIA TO SEARCH INFORMATION PRESENTED BY: BAVISKAR MADHURI DILIP(DYSP/ACP) CPTP 2017

WHAT IS ’WIKIPEDIA’? It is a multilingual, web-based, free-content encyclopedia project. Wikipedia is written collaboratively by largely anonymous volunteers who write without pay. Wikipedia is continually created and updated, with articles on historic events appearing within minutes, rather than months or years. Wikipedia’s articles allow the user to use links that are related to the pages for additional information. Starting point for every information/field.

Many visitors come to Wikipedia to acquire knowledge, while others come to share knowledge. At this very instant, dozens of articles are being improved, and new articles are also being created. Changes can be viewed at the Recent changes page and a random page at random.

How to use Wikipedia? Step1-Go to https://www.wikipedia.org/ Step2-Choose the language which will suit you best

Step 3-This is how the main page will look like.

Step 4-Following are parts of main page.

Step 5-If you want to search, articles can be found using the search box on the top-right side of the screen A)Particular subject 1.Maharshtra 2.Third battle of Panipat

3.Personalities-Example Dr A P J Abdul Kalam

B)Sectionwise and learn deeper-It has portals, which organize content around topic areas;best portals are selected as featured portals

C)Random-Some information on Wikipedia is organized into lists; the best of these are designated as featured lists, where it has ‘today’s feature article’

CHALLENGES Sometimes it may not be reliable, because anyone can click "edit" at any time and add stuff in, any article may contain undetected misinformation, errors, or vandalism.

How to improve it? Awareness of this helps the reader to obtain valid information, avoid recently added misinformation and fix the article.

THANK YOU!
