Preamble The Declaration of Independence We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness. That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed.

The Declaration of Independence The United States didn’t exist until after the Declaration of Independence was signed. The Declaration has only left the capital twice. The first time was when the British attacked Washington during the War of 1812. The second time was during World War II from late 1941 until the fall of 1944 when it was stored at Fort Knox.

She founded the Midwest Latino Health National Hispanic Heritage Month September 15 to October 15  --Recognition of the contributions of Hispanic and Latin Americans to the heritage and culture of the United States-- She founded the Midwest Latino Health Research, Training and Policy Center at the University of Illinois at Chicago 12 years ago. The center has since become a national model for engaging community leaders, rather than outside "experts," in collecting data, assessing medical needs and developing plans for combatting health problems that disproportionately affect Latinos.
