Paraphrasing Practice

Directly from website: “Sloths are arboreal mammals noted for slowness of movement and for spending most of their lives hanging upside down in the trees of the tropical rainforests of South America and Central America.” Paraphrased: Sloths are slow moving mammals that spend most of their time hanging upside down in the rainforests of South and Central America.

Directly from website: “Few records of Shakespeare's private life survive; this has stimulated considerable speculation about such matters as his physical appearance, his sexuality, his religious beliefs, and whether the works attributed to him were written by others.” Paraphrased: There are a lot of questions about Shakespeare's appearance, sexuality and religious beliefs because there isn’t much documented about his life. With that being said, people also question if he actually wrote all of his plays.

Directly from website: “Tsunamis cause damage by two mechanisms: the smashing force of a wall of water travelling at high speed, and the destructive power of a large volume of water draining off the land and carrying a large amount of debris with it, even with waves that do not appear to be large.” Paraphrased: Even when large waves are not present, a tsunami can cause damage with the force of its fast moving water and with how destructive large amounts of water draining off the land can be.

Directly from website: “Hawaii's diverse natural scenery, warm tropical climate, abundance of public beaches, oceanic surroundings, and active volcanoes make it a popular destination for tourists, surfers, biologists, and volcanologists.” Paraphrased: Hawaii is a popular travel destination for many different people because of its natural beauty and ocean, numerous public beaches, active volcanoes and warm weather.

Directly from website: “Oktoberfest is held annually in Munich, Bavaria, Germany, and is a 16 to 18 day folk festival running from mid or late September to the first weekend in October, with more than six million people from around the world attending the event every year.” Paraphrased: do it yourself!
