Today’s Agenda Grand Rounds: Client Updates Discussion of Common Core State Standards and the Connection to LTGs and STOs Next Weeks Schedule

Clinical Rounds Client Code Age Dx Identified Target(s) Current client performance and what have you learned? Any Potential Recommended Treatment Changes Discuss your Social Skills Camp experiences. What have you learned about this population and their current and future needs?

Common Core State Standards and LTGs & STOs Who has heard of Common Core State Standards? What you can you tell me about them? Have you ever read through them? How do they relate to services provided by speech-language pathologists within a public school setting?

CCSS for ELA The common Core State Standards for English Language Arts & Literacy in literacy, history, social studies, science, and technical subjects. “The Standards” represent the next generation of K-12 standards designed to prepare all students for success in college, career, and life by the time they graduate from high school.

Let’s Make the Connection to School-Age Eligibility, LTGs, and STOs * To be eligible for special education services, 3 criteria need to exist: (1) The student qualifies under a specific handicapping condition, based upon a valid assessment, (2) There is an educational impact, and (3) The student requires specially designed instruction. http://www.corestandards.org/read-the-standards/ Click through the different sections for ELA Which standards could be related to LTGs and STOs used for speech, language, social skills, (or fluency, voice, hearing) How could we frame our LTGs to include or reference the CCSS? How does Blooms Taxonomy play a role?

Use Blooms Taxonomy to Help with Identifying your clients ZAD and ZPD CCSS.ELA-Literacy.RI.3.2: Determine the main idea of a text and recount the key details and explain how they support the main idea. Language Targets Main Idea Recall Key Details Explain how details support the main idea Use Blooms Taxonomy to Help with Identifying your clients ZAD and ZPD

A Support to Help with Developing LTGs, STOs, and Scaffolding Your Language During Lessons Note how the Qs change. Note how the verbs differ between the levels - This can help you with your goal writing.

End of This Week & Next Week Complete the 2nd self-reflection and send it to your supervisors You should be starting and completing post-testing for your clients in order to integrate your data and analysis into your final ITP. We will be scheduling final IPPE meetings. Don’t forget to identify a 3 minutes video segment of treatment with the client you have been assigned for grand rounds. We will be watching video segments in from 12:30am – 2:30noon in HEDCO 370 (unless you get an email regarding the Clinic Room 188 being available). This will be a potluck. Let’s identify our favorite food to bring.
