School Information Downtown Doral Charter Elementary School DDCES is a Bilingual Charter School whose mission is to provide students with a comprehensive dual curriculum and bicultural/bilingual education. http://www.ddces.org Office: (305) 569-2223

Ms. Diaz Born and raised in Doral, Florida. Bilingual in both English and Spanish. Graduated from Florida International University with a Bachelors in Elementary Education with ESOL and Reading endorsements. Taught at Renaissance Elementary Charter School for 9 years. This is my first year teaching at DDCES.

Ms. Vasquez Born and raised in Caracas, Venezuela. Fully bilingual in both English and Spanish. Graduated from Santa Maria University with a Bachelor’s in Law. Graduated from Nova Southeastern University with a Master’s in Science and Foreign Language. Taught kinder-first grade in the bilingual program in Miami and Minnesota for 11 years, and fourth grade at DDCES for the past 3 years.

School Safety DDCES has an assigned police officer to monitor our school. Security guards Morning and afternoon shift Entrance and office door will be locked at ALL times! In order to come into the school you must buzz the office at the door. You cannot enter through the side doors.

School Safety Electronic system will be in place where all visitors will register with the computer and a name tag will be printed. Each parent must have their ID provided by PTO. Motion sensors and cameras throughout the school. Barracudas for each classroom. No Cell Phone Use in Car Line Car dismissal: Students will not be placed in a car without a hanging decal.

School Safety All parents/family members entering the building for drop off, dismissal, and daytime events will need to have a current Parent Identification Badge by Monday, October 11, 2019. If the parent has an Parent Identification Badge from last year, they keep it. A new sticker will be issued upon their clearance by Miami Dade County Public Schools. If they need a new Parent Identification Badge, they are to send a headshot to ddcespto@gmail.com. Include their child’s name, grade, and teacher. ALL parents/family members who wish to have the 2019-2020 Parent Identification Badge, must be cleared through Miami Dade County Public Schools. The clearance process opens August 16th

If an effort to limit interruptions to our educational program, any items that need to be delivered to students must be brought to the main office in the morning no later than 9:30 am. There are no guarantees that any items left after 9:30 am will be delivered to your child/teacher on that same day. Deliveries will only take place between 8:30-9:30 am. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.

*Sweater must be engraved. Downtown Doral Charter Elementary School has a mandatory uniform policy. All school polos, pants, & skirts must have the DDCES logo. The polos must be teal. All students must wear closed-toed shoes. (Please visit the student handbook for the revised uniform policy). *Sweater must be engraved. -Attendance is ESSENTIAL to success in school! -After 8:30 AM the student will be considered TARDY. Students will be picked up from the cafeteria at 8:15 AM. -If your child is ABSENT an excused note must be signed and turned in no later than 3 days after the absence. An excused note is a Doctor’s note or a note from the parent stating the child was sick. Other reasons’ for absence will be determined and approved by administration. - Excused absences include illness, death in the family, or for religious reasons. ** As per school policy, 1 tardy will result in the loss of perfect attendance award**

3 detentions = privilege to attend a school event will be revoked. Perfect Attendance means PERFECT! (No tardies and no absences). Tardy Policy 3 tardies = 1 detention 3 detentions = privilege to attend a school event will be revoked.

FIRST 2 DAYS OF SCHOOL ONLY 8/19/19 – 8/20/19 Parent Student drop-off: Parent must park and drop off their child in the classroom by 8:30 AM. Arrival Procedure Beginning on Wednesday, August 21st Drive through entrance is on 52nd ST Child will wait in the cafeteria until 8:00 AM. Parents can enjoy breakfast in our dining room until 8:00 am. At 8:00 am, they must depart the building. After 8:30 am student is tardy!

No dismissal is permitted half an hour before the end of the school day, unless authorized by administration. (3:30 pm) Two Dismissal Options: 1- Parent Pick-up - Ms. Castellanos’ Classroom (215) TBA 2- Drive thru (52nd St) - Large decal will be given to display on window ** PLEASE let the Homeroom teacher know in writing if there are any dismissal changes** 24 hrs advanced notice is required for dismissal changes. Please call the office if you have an emergency during dismissal time.

Volunteers Each family has to volunteer 20 volunteer hours throughout the school year. Must volunteer, donation of school supplies does not count.
