Summer Learning Requirements for Middle School 2019

According to Johns Hopkins University, the effects of summer learning loss can result in: nearly a 3 month loss in grade-level equivalency in math and a 2 month loss in grade-level equivalency in reading.

Math Summer Learning Requirements You need to complete 60 minutes of Khan Academy every week. Grade breakdown by minutes completed: Total Minutes Completed Grade Earned 480+ Minutes A 384-479 B 336-383 C 288-335 D This is the 1st grade you will earn in your Middle School Math class! Time spent watching videos will not count towards the required minutes, only PRACTICE minutes.

Directions for Book Talk Front of the Paper 1. Create a visual representation of the book. This could be a picture of the setting, the characters, or your favorite event in the story. 2. Include the title and author of your book. Back of the Paper 1. Write a complete summary of your book. Be sure to include specific and important details about the events in the story including how the story ends. 2. Write down your favorite passage and the pages it came from. Be sure to have a sticky note while you read so you can easily find your favorite part again and use it for this book talk. 3. Would you recommend this book to a classmate? Evaluate what is good/bad about the book using some specific details about the plot, characters, problem, and solution of your novel.
