Meet the Teacher Event 17th September 2019 Ms Marshall and Ms Cyril

Our timetable

Literacy - writing By the end of Y2 a child should be able to consistently use the correct punctuation be able to spell correctly the words covered in Y2 (spelling rules) A child is able to read with increasing fluency and accuracy A child is able to join their handwriting

Literacy - reading We expect children to read 3 times a week at home Reading records should come to school on a Monday, Wednesday and Friday Children can change their books on any day if they would like a new one to read

Numeracy The children will be continuing with the mental maths objective that they finished on last year We will be working with the children to develop their problem solving abilities and applying their maths in different ways Concrete, pictorial and abstract concepts in maths will be covered

History and Geography To describe places outside of Europe using geographical language Describing key features of a place To recount the life of a British famous person from the past To explain how their local area was different in the past

Design and Technology, Art and PE Use a range of mediums to create artistic pieces Talk about artist use of shape, patterns and colours To create a piece of art in another artists style Overarching goal of PE lessons is for children to: Understand healthy choices Feel successful when participating in a variety of activities Increase children’s self and spatial awareness Enjoy and participate in group activities Engage in teamwork

Home learning Children will receive 100 spelling words to learn at home and will be tested once a term. These are sent home each Friday as our spelling focus in phonics/ spelling group. Spellings are tested weekly. Mental Maths – practise with your child 3 times a week for their mental maths weekly test. Reading – 3 a week, comment in reading record; consequences for children who do not read at home -

PE Our PE days are Wednesday and Friday Children are expected to bring their PE kit on Monday and take it home on Friday.

Expectations: We expect each child to ‘have a go’ and welcome mistakes We expect each child to listen to the instructions and make the most of the opportunities provided And notably, we expect each child to enjoy learning!

Attendance and punctuality We expect children to have an attendance and punctuality of 96% or above. If for any reason your child cannot come to school – please call the office to let us know.

National Testing We will have SATs in May 2020

Behaviour We operate a yellow and red card system at Park We expect children to treat others kindly and respectfully

Other remainders… Volunteers - reading Birthday celebration – own clothes, nut free cake We will have a number of workshops available throughout the year – please read the newsletter regularly to find upcoming events Parents Showcase Weekly assemblies on Fridays – we welcome all parents Lost Property – the box goes out every morning and afternoon; it is children’s responsibility to check these regularly ParentMail – new communication system – the office can help you set it up Healthy lunchboxes – no fizzy drinks, chocolate, sweets, crisps Newsletters are sent out weekly – ensure the office has your correct email address We require passwords for dismissing Breakfast Club Children go to the library once a week and will take out a book each week Communication with teachers – if you have any questions, or concerns please speak to the CT at the end of the day or in the morning Passports Values
