Six week Parenting course – all are invited “It takes a whole community, to bring up a child” Six week Parenting course – all are invited We welcome parents to attend these sessions where Ark Boulton Staff will look further into areas where support and understanding will help our teenage community.  Ideally we ask that you attend ALL of the 6 training sessions in order to experience the full benefit and development of this course.   Content for session 1 ~Friday 13th September 2019 Identifying our own teenage experiences For parents to reflect on their own experiences as teenagers and evoke compassion and understanding in order to deal with their own teenagers. Content for session 2 ~Friday 20th September 2019 Adolescence To help parents understand that adolescence is a time of transition and change and that adolescents have particular needs. Content for session 3 ~Friday 11th October 2019 Identifying our parental style The role and responsibilities of a parent to include provisions for daily life as well as love, care, support and discipline, what parents need to fulfil their roles and responsibilities, exploring different parental styles. Content for session 4 ~Friday 25th October 2019 Communication To explore the pleasures and pressures of living with teenagers and to begin to identify ways in which parents can create a supportive home environment. Strategies for improving communication and developing mutual acceptance and trust. To identify unsafe situations and put strategies in place to deal with them. Content for session 5 ~Friday 8th November 2019 Rules and Boundaries To assist parents in exploring different approaches to discipline and setting ground rules; using a rewards and sanctions system. Learning new approaches and more effective problem solving strategies. Content for session 6 ~Friday 22nd November 2019 Bringing it all together The final session will be an overview of all that we have discussed and will also provide an opportunity for parents your personal experiences of how what you have learned may have made an impact, or provide more insights.
