P&O Ferrymasters Driver Training Programme 2019 v1 Narrow Slit Coils P&O Ferrymasters Driver Training Programme 2019 v1 TSE Ref – Narrow Slit Coils

Narrow Slit coils (ETTS) on loose timbers X 2 per coil OR Straps tensioned and pulling to opposite sides of trailer A FULL LOAD OF THESE COILS ON CRADLES WILL BE LOADED DOWN THE CENTRE OF THE TRAILER AND AS A BLOCK – NO SPACES BETWEEN COIL STACKS EACH STRAP WILL REQUIRE A MINIMUM OF 3 X SLEEVES / EDGE PROTECTORS THE COIL STACKS SHOULD BUTT UPTO EACH OTHER, BUT DUE TO THEIR SIZE BE STAGGERED TO ALTERNATE SIDES THROUGH-OUT THE LENGTH OF THE LOAD. ONLY IF THERE CAN BE MADE A SUITABLE FALSE HEAD BOARD CAN THE SEQUENCE BE BROKEN. EACH STACK OF COILS SHOULD BE SECURED BY A MINIMUM OF TWO STRAPS SECURED THROUGH THE BORE OF THE COILS AND ATTACHED AND TENSIONED TO OPPOSITE SIDE OF THE TRAILER. See BLUE AND YELLOW STRAPS THE COMBINATION OF STRAPS AND HEADBOARDS WILL PREVENT FORWARD / LATERAL MOVEMENT. EACH STRAP MUST HAVE SUITABLE STRAP WEAR SLEEVES TO PREVENT THE STRAPS BEING CUT Each strap is secured through bore of coil and back to same side

Narrow Slit coils (ETTS) on loose timbers Stacked coils should be of same diameter. Placed up to a headboard to prevent forward movement 2 x Straps secured through the bore, tensioned to opposite sides of the trailer Load restraint posts Timber balk THE WEIGHT OF THE LOAD SHOULD BE DISTRIBUTED THROUGHOUT THE TRAILER STACKS SHOULD START PLACED UP TO THE HEADBOARD OR FALSE HEADBOARD THESE LARGE DIAMETER NARROW COILS SHOULD BE OF THE SAME DIAMETER AND STACKED ON LOOSE TIMBERS NOTE EACH ROW OF TIMBERS SHOULD BE PLACE DIRECTLY ABOVE EACH OTHER AND BE LONG ENOUGH TO SUPPORT THE WHOLE OF THE COIL (SHORT PIECES WILL DEFORM THE COIL) ANY SPACE LEFT BETWEEN STACKED COILS LEAVES A POTENTIAL FOR THE CARGO TO MOVE – AFFECTING THE STRAP TENSIONS AND THEIR EFFECTIVENESS Straps should be protected by wear sleeves where secured over the edges of the coils

Slit coils (ETTS) on loose timbers in pairs X 2 per coil OR 2 x straps per coil tensioned and pulling to opposite sides of trailer A FULL LOAD OF THESE COILS ON CRADLES WILL BE LOADED DOWN THE CENTRE OF THE TRAILER AS A BLOCK FORWARD RESTRAINT POSTS WILL ENHANCE THE SAFETY OF THE LOAD IF AVAILABLE SPACES MEAN POTENTIAL MOVEMENT WITHIN THE LOAD AND POSSIBLE STRAP FAILURE Each strap is secured through bore of coil and back to same side

Small Slit coils (ETTS) on loose timbers Placed side by side up to a headboard or forward restraint to prevent forward movement 2 x Straps secured through the bore of each coil, tensioned to opposite sides of the trailer Timber balk False Headboard Load restraint posts THESE SMALL DIAMETER (WIDER) SLIT COILS SHOULD NOT BE DOUBLE STACKED THEY CAN BE PLACED SIDE BY SIDE AND UP TO A HEADBOARD OR FORWARD RESTRAINT SYSTEM TWO STRAPS PER COIL ARE REQUIRED THIS MEANS THAT THERE ARE TWO STRAPS IN EACH COIL PULLING IN OPPOSITE DIRECTIONS. EACH STRAP MUST HAVE SUITABLE WEAR SLEEVES TO PREVENT THE STRAPS BEING CUT THE STRAPS PREVENT LATERAL MOVEMENT AND THE HEADBOARD / RESTRAINT POSTS PREVENT FORWARD MOVEMENT Straps should be protected by wear sleeves when secured over the Sharp edges of the coils
