Figure 1 Model of 53BP1 Action in Promoting p53 Activity 53BP1 acts in the nucleoplasm as a scaffold linking USP28 to p53. The USP28 deubiquitylase activity promotes the conversion of an inactive form of p53 into an active protein competent for DNA binding. Inducers of p53-dependent responses such as genotoxic insults or centrosome imbalance signal independently of 53BP1 action.
