Warm-Up Activity Directions: On the unlined side of your notecard, articulate features that make this copy “cool.” On the lined side, try to imitate this piece as closely as possible, but write about something in high school. *****************EXAMPLE*********** Check out that internet athlete. That’s him boarding the bus, gym bag slung over one shoulder, laptop case hanging over the other. Inside that leather case is the life he once handed over to his sport. The family he kissed goodbye that morning. The friends he can’t reach from the road. The hobby that used to wait until season’s end. – ESPN The Magazine

Student Example Check out that teacher. That’s him walking from the teachers’ lounge, cup of coffee in one hand, leather briefcase in the other. Inside that briefcase is the reason he teaches. The jumble of essays he grades- all on the same topic. The lesson plans for another three periods. The five papers that need to be photocopied. The grades waiting to be posted for 25 anxious teens. What are the similarities to the original excerpt?

About Me Married for 10 years this month 4 children ( 2 by birth and 2 by adoption) Teaching for 7 years BS in Journalism, Florida A&M University Masters in Education, UNF Goal: doctoral degree program in 2018, UF

Teacher- Mom, life’s crazy; still smiling SIX WORD MEMOIRS Teacher- Mom, life’s crazy; still smiling

More Six Word Memoir Examples My Examples: Always learning; Today’s grace is enough. Finding Him; finding me- wife, mom. Loving me just as I am. Student Examples: I’m just a kid. Now listen. After all, high school’s still school. I’m a person, not a product. Not all girls want sparkly things. My brain is eating my heart.

Excellent Student Examples

Class Rules: 4. Engagement

No Explanation Needed:

Late Work There should NOT be any late work. Journalism is ALL about deadlines. If you are absent or having difficulty getting the content you need, contact your direct supervisor. IF they cannot help you, contact the person above them. The Managing Editors and Editor- In-Chief should be your last resort. Missing a deadline without a legitimate reason will result in a 50% deduction of the total possible points.

Home Learning Designed to prepare students for class assignments and/or extend learning beyond the classroom. Students should expect some out-of-class work in the form of larger projects or assignments to assess skills and knowledge over long-range time period. In addition, much of your reading will be done OUTSIDE of class.

Make-up Work Responsibility of the student to check Blackboard & “Make-up File” when absent. Work should be made up within one day for each class day missed.

Assessment & Grading Assessment will be a combination of participation, test/quizzes, projects, presentations, and writing assignments. Grades calculated using a TOTAL POINTS system. All grades will be posted on FOCUS as they are updated.
