(B) Pellicles are formed in the air-liquid interface of fluids in nature or in the lab. Cells are bound together, forming a distinct macroscopic floating infrastructure. Thick pellicle formation requires the presence of exopolysaccharides (EPS). (C) Submerged biofilms develop under flow conditions.
