Reading is a vital part of our everyday learning. What have you read today?

Have you ever been faced with… “I can read it by myself!” At what age might a child say this? To what are they referring? Take feedback.

What does reading involve? PD1 PD2 PD 3 PD4 PD5 PD6 PD7 PD8 PD9 PD: Performance Descriptor Look at a text and ask parents to identify what they are doing. Ensure they read aloud to one another also.

How does the author make Culcullin seem frightening? Which PDs is this developing? PD7 – can comment on language, form and structure in fiction and non-fiction. PDS – can recognise literacy language (and increasingly comment on its effect.

Why did the writer include details about what the farmers ate? Skills being practised? PD6 – can deduce, infer or interpret information, events and ideas from texts PD5 – can select, retrieve and reference information in order to explain ideas about a text.

What type of text is this and what are its features? PD3 – Reads and understands a (wide) range of text types.
