From Prediction Tools to Shiny App Creating a tool for contaminated food source prediction in Salmonella and STEC Outbreaks Caroline Ledbetter, Colorado School of Public Health Center for Innovation Design and Analysis

The Problem Can we predict the source of a foodborne salmonella or STEC(shiga toxin producting E. coli) from characterstics of the outbreak Serotype (for Salmonella) Geography – local, concentrated or disperse Severity Gender balance of infected individuals Age groups infected seasonality

Challenges Unbalanced Data Predictors are dynamic over the course of an outbreak Missing Predictors Missing Outcomes
