The Rise of Technology in American Life If this was never invented I’d die? The 19th century gave way to the science and technology that changed American life! Changed the way they lived Changed the way the socialized Made the work place more efficient and replaced the old way of doing things

The Wright Brothers Built and flew the 1st airplane! Opened the door for travel to distant land

Building Upward -The Bessemer process of converting iron ore to steel had been perfected by this time. Architects began to experiment with the steel Gustave Eiffel’s Famous tower (built in Paris) proved that a building with a steel girder skeleton could rise to heights undreamed of in the past. People use to consider 10-11 story building tall…until the Skyscraper was born. Building with 70 stories or more.

Ford’s Innovation Steel also made the automobile industry possible Henry Ford was the most successful of the American auto manufactures. By 1914 Ford was selling Model-T cars. Henry Ford realized that production could be more efficient another way…. The Assembly line was formed! Assembly line- made production much more efficient and lowered the price of the cars! Now ordinary families could afford them.

The Assembly Line Helped expenses go down and sales and profits go up! However the assembly line had its problems Workers grew easily bored from doing the same job over and over Their muscles became disproportional Their was no creativity Poor job satisfaction The turnover rate was high

Emergence of Advertising and Consumerism Advertising became the perfect way to compete for new customers. Posters, Billboards, Flyers appeared everywhere They were eye catchy Created jobs for skilled workers
