Learning Strategies WHO BELIEVES: ACADEMIC ADVISING IS TEACHING ACADEMIC ADVISING MUST BE DEFINED CLEARLY AS PART OF THE EDUCATIONAL MISSION ACADEMIC ADVISING HAS STUDENT LEARNING OUTCOMES AND EXPECTATIONS?

IF SO, THEN WE HAVE TO DEVELOP LEARNING STRATEGIES, ACTIVITIES, AND MATERIAL. QUESTIONS TO DRIVE YOUR DEVELOPMENT: WHAT MATERIAL IS NEEDED? WHAT PEDAGOGY WILL BE BEST USED? WHERE SHOULD THE STRATEGY BE INTRODUCED IN THE STUDENT’S CURRICULUM? HOW WILL I ASSESS THE ACHIEVEMENT OF THE OUTCOME? WHO DO I NEED TO PARTNER WITH IN THE TEACHING AND ASSESSMENT OF THE OUTCOMES?

TABLES 1 STUDENTS WILL KNOW THE COLLEGE POLICIES RELATED TO ACADEMIC STANDING, WITHDRAWALS, AND KEY REGULATIONS STUDENTS WILL KNOW THE COURSES REQUIRED FOR THEIR ACADEMIC PROGRAM STUDENTS WILL KNOW THE STUDY SKILLS NEEDED TO BE SUCCESSFUL

TABLES 2 STUDENTS WILL DEVELOP AND IMPLEMENT AN ACADEMIC PLAN FOR GRADUATION AND COMPLETION STUDENTS WILL DEVELOP A PLAN OF STUDY ACTIVITIES AND SKILLS TO BE SUCCESSFUL STUDENTS WILL DEVELOP AN ACTION PLAN FOR COMPLETING SUCCESSFUL INTERNSHIPS

TABLES THREE STUDENT WILL GAIN AN APPRECIATION FOR THE VALUE OF GENERAL EDUCATION STUDENTS WILL VALUE THE LEARNING EXPERIENCES THEY HAVE HAD IN THE ACADEMIC ADVISING RELATIONSHIP STUDENTS WILL VALUE THEIR DEGREE BEYOND THE “GETTING A JOB”.
