History District 113 is located in the north suburban area of Chicago. It is comprised of two high schools - Highland Park High School in Highland Park, Illinois and Deerfield High School in Deerfield, Illinois. The high schools serve the communities of Deerfield, Bannockburn, Riverwoods, Highland Park, Highwood and Fort Sheridan. District 113 provides a rigorous, equitable, student-centered education, inspiring excellence and promoting innovation and lifelong learning. District 113 is committed to preparing students with skills, knowledge and resilience to be successful contributors in a changing world. The internship experience in 2020-2021 will occur at Deerfield High School. Stipend $27,000.

A Typical Week 40 hours of in-school time between the hours of 7:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. Start and end times vary depending on the school schedule and meetings. Activities include: individual and group counseling/therapy supervision and collaboration consultation with special education and general education staff communication with parents/private providers student/classroom observations or interventions, IEP and problem-solving meetings, assessment IEP-related paperwork and report writing. All interns receive a minimum of 2 hours per week of clinical supervision. Supervision by other psychologists within the building can range between 30 minutes and 2 hours per week.

Intern’s typical week of supervision Each intern receives minimum of two hours face-to-face supervision each week with the primary supervisor, Dr. Brunner-Downs (for school year 2020-21). She is available to meet with the ISPIC intern on a daily basis (Monday through Friday) unless there is no school or an ISPIC training. She reviews the intern’s activities for the day, provides regular supervision and is available for questions and consultation on as needed basis. Dr. Brunner-Downs offers assistance for the intern to arrange his or her summer rotation at NSSED and provides the intern with regular supervision over the summer. Drs. Januszewski and Platten are available for secondary supervision on a daily basis as well. Drs. Brunner-Downs, Januszewski and Platten meet regularly to discuss the intern’s development over the course of internship.

Materials & Equipment Available to Intern Access to many updated psychological and educational assessment instruments, technical manuals, and computer-scoring programs WISC-V, WAIS-IV, WIAT-III, WJ IV (COG, ACH, and Oral), WRAML-2, WNV, Nelson Denny Reading Test, MACI, MAPI, Beck Youth Inventory, ASRS, YSR/CBCL/TRF, BASC-II, Conners 3, Conners AI, BRIEF, Vineland II, among others. Access to the psychological professional library at both high schools within the district, which includes the most recent DSM-V, service-delivery guidebooks, and other manuals.
