Sustaining a healthy salmon population Salmon Habitat Sustaining a healthy salmon population

Our Topic of Exploration A healthy salmon population requires certain habitat conditions, including …. and ….. (This is an example for your group to model. Your “Topic of Exploration” is really the same as a thesis statement. You’re telling your audience exactly what you plan to discuss – sort of like providing a map for yourself and your reader.)

First sign of a healthy habitat If your topic includes several components, i.e. more than one type of habitat for a healthy salmon population, then devote 1-3 slides to each type of habitat that you found to be important.

Another “must” for a healthy habitat

Discuss the different habitats on each slide Discuss the different habitats on each slide. Include quotes or paraphrases from external sources when appropriate to support what you have to say, like this: A USDA research study “observed positive correlations between juvenile coho salmon density and habitat features such as large wood and pools” (Bryant et al. 3) (Notice the in-text citation and how it correlates directly with the cited source in the Works Cited)

Works Cited Bryant, Trent McDonald, et al. “A Protocol Using Coho Salmon to Monitor Tongass National Forest Land and Resource Management Plan Standards and Guidelines for Fish Habitat.” Forest Service Pacific Northwest Research Station, 2008. Web. Cite all of the sources that you quoted or paraphrased from in your presentation. Make sure that they correlate directly with your in-text citations. Remember to use your citation guides AND always feel free to ask the library for help!
