Legal framework Within the Commission DG SANTE is responsible. Delegated Decision currently in public consultation. Implementing Decision under preparation. Legal acts address the government. Thus, it is not clear yet, whether statistical office, agency, ministry or any other body reports.

Food waste generation mandatory reported for food waste from primary production (Nace A), processing and manufacturing (Nace C10-11) retail and other distribution of food (Nace G46-47), restaurants and food services (Nace I55-56, others), households. destined to waste treatment operations

Limitations of Eurostat estimation Shares of EU 28 based on different countries in dfiferent years (Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Germany, Estonia, France, Croatia, The Netherlands, Malta, Poland, Portugal, Slovenia and Sweden) Restrictive assumptions about the shares of food waste within the LoW-codes food-waste recorded at different stages, food has a high share of water, which may result in weight losses between stages of treatment.
