Mission The Center for Advancing Faculty Excellence promotes the success of Missouri S&T faculty as teaching-scholars at all stages of their careers Vision The Center for Advancing Faculty Excellence will be the focal point for enabling faculty to achieve excellence in, and balance among, the teaching, research and service missions of Missouri S&T

Today’s Objectives Reduce anxiety about teaching-related responsibilities by knowing where to go for help and how the teaching evaluation process works Discuss the seven questions on the CET Explore what it means to prepare for class, communicate well, and demonstrate how you care as a teacher Discuss the campus teaching awards 5. Discuss the Ten Steps to Teaching Success program

CET Evaluations: Campus Questions Rate the overall teaching effectiveness of this instructor. Evaluate this course, independent of the instructor's effectiveness, in terms of its educational value to you. Rate the instructor's use of assignments and tests for facilitating your learning of the subject matter. Rate the instructor's concern for your understanding of the material. Rate the instructor's preparation for class. Rate the instructor's ability to communicate. Rate the instructor's ability to stimulate and motivate you.

Instructor ratings required by state law CET Evaluations: Instructor ratings required by state law to be posted for consumers I would tell other students that the instructor was effective in communicating the content of the course. Ten Steps to Teaching Success Provides a path for all tenure-track and non-tenure track professors to demonstrate engagement in continuous improvement of teaching and student learning; Provides a way to utilize evidence-based teaching strategies and to practice reflective teaching; Is a voluntary program for full-time faculty, intended to be completed in three years; It is comprised of five mandatory components to be completed in any order and five additional points through a variety of activities; Go to cafe.mst.edu to register.

Faculty Teaching Award The Faculty Teaching Award recognizes faculty members who have demonstrated excellence in teaching-related activities; Nomination packages include student and peer evaluations of teaching effectiveness and other supporting documentation; The award includes a $1,000 stipend; For more information and an application, go to the provost's website.

Outstanding Teaching Awards; Class of ’42 Excellence in Teaching Award The Outstanding Teaching Award Committee recognizes those faculty members (about 30 per year) who have demonstrated a high level of instructional effectiveness as measured by student evaluations of teaching effectiveness.  The Class of ’42 Excellence in Teaching Award recognizes a first-year faculty member who has demonstrated excellence in effective teaching efforts based upon student end-of-course evaluations.
