Do Now Task Government Expansion: Copy the term below in your notebook: Government Expansion: Power of the national government in Washington D.C. has grown over time.

Objective To acquire an understanding of government expansion through vocabulary and image analysis.

Independent Task Write down the word, definition and complete the task using the information on the slide and the internet.

Guided Practice Word #1: Confederation Definition: A group of independent states that work together. Task: Google the Articles of Confederation and write down what they were.

Word # 2: Ratify Definition: To approve something. Task: Google what has the government ratified and write down the answer.

Word # 3: Federalism Definition: The divided powers between the National and State governments. Task: Write down 2 powers of the national government and 2 powers of state governments on your graphic organizer.

Word # 4: Convention Definition: A meeting for a specific purpose. Task: Use the word convention in a sentence or two to describe the image at right.
