SO WHAT'S IN IT FOR YOUR YOUNG PERSON?

IT WILL HELP WITH THEIR FUTURE! University Apprenticeships Employment Life skills Work experience is a brilliant thing to add onto your personal statement when applying for university! Competition for the best positions is high and your work experience will help you to stand out! Work experience will have given you skills and experiences that will help you at application and interview stage! The skills you will gain while on placement can be used through out your future and developed on as you gain more experience!

4 TOP TIPS FOR WORK EXPERIENCE SUCCESS 2 1 DO SOMETHING THAT INTERESTS YOU! RESEARCH THE COMPANY BEFORE YOU GO If you want to pursue a career in animal care, for example, try to get work experience at a vets or farm. Many employers want to be approached so don’t be afraid to contact your local businesses to see if they have opportunities available. Make sure you know who you are reporting to, what the company does, its aims and values, and who its customers are. ASK QUESTIONS 3 4 MAKE A NOTE OF THE SKILLS YOU LEARN Don’t be afraid to ask relevant questions as it can often show you are interested in the company and keen to learn more. This will help when writing CVs and UCAS personal statements. It’ll be useful to demonstrate to universities and potential employers in the future how well you can manage your time, communicate, and work with others.

WHAT SKILLS WILL THEY NEED DURING THEIR WORK EXPERIENCE?

THE GREAT 8 SKILLS 1 8 2 3 7 4 6 5 Positive attitude Clear communication Listening skills 7 3 Being on time Team work 4 6 Being respectful Independent thinking 5 Hard working

HERE ARE SOME OF THE EMPLOYERS THAT SUPPORT WORK EXPERIENCE!

It isn't all glitz and glamour. THE REALITY They will have the chance to see a real working environment and a good foundation to start building their future. It isn't all glitz and glamour. There are limitations to what employers are allowed to let students do. If they don't enjoy it, there is still a lot of value in the process and what they will learn.

COMPLETE THE APPLICATION FORMS! SO WHAT HAPPENS NEXT? COMPLETE THE APPLICATION FORMS! Application forms and self-placement forms. BE REALISTIC! Some sectors are in high demand. Make sure they get their top choice by securing a self-placement! DISCUSS THEIR CHOICES Make sure they speak to yourselves and teachers about the choices they want to make. They may be able to help!

3 PREFERENCES HEALTH TRAVEL AREAS We ask for the student to pick 3 preferences HEALTH If you have any medical needs or requirements - let us know! TRAVEL AREAS The further you can travel, the better the choice of placements. Make sure you can get to all the places you select.

IT REALLY IS THAT SIMPLE! SELF-PLACEMENTS THE CHOICE IS YOURS! You are in full control of where you will be going on your work placement. Get your self-placement form filled in and signed by your chosen employer! IT REALLY IS THAT SIMPLE!

SELF-PLACEMENT FORM This for the employer to fill out. This is information we need so we can contact and visit them. Employers must have these insurances for the placement to go ahead. We need a signature from your employer and your teacher!

A FANTASTIC OPPORTUNITY AVAILABLE PLACEMENTS A FANTASTIC OPPORTUNITY On some occasions there will be a choice of placements to chose from if your sector choices and travel areas don't provide what you specified.
