R.J. BACKROUND IN BASK PRISON OF ALAVA/ARABA 20 Years ago it was proposed a philosophical change from rehabilitation intervention, treatment and punitive justice, to restaurative justice

Previous experiences about RJ 1999: Training in a Restorative Justice frame for officers and treatment team. 2008: First edition of the World Cafe in prison (practical goals). Includes: politicians, judges, all prison staff, NGOs, University, inmates, victims, families of all of them. Participation of the Victim Care Service in the Gender Violence Program in prison. Regular Open days with families/friends in prison

Previous experiences about RJ Participation of the inmates in international twinning projects Restorative encounters among terrorists and victims Inmates participating in Sexual Offender Treatment Program as trainers in further editions Inmates as lecturers at the University and Youth Detention Centers

RJ in prison. Present time RJ as a Cross-cutting treatment program, includes: Legal Liability Criminal mediation in prison Inmates as support staff for other inmates with mental disorder or suicide risk Helping the community (workshops in villages, retirement homes…) Inmates as trainers

RJ in prison. Present time RESPECTS UNITS as a restorative way of life in prison. A global frame
