Top Revision Tips for English Language 25% of this qualification assesses students’ abilities to interpret and analyse non-fiction. The unseen extracts used for this exam are taken in part from contemporary journalism. Read non-fiction (either online or paper) taken from quality broadsheet newspapers and identify: Author’s viewpoint Purpose of the text Techniques deployed to achieve their purpose
Top Revision Tips for English Literature Teach parents the poems Your child could teach you a poem a week. Ask them to teach you: The themes of the poem Explain to you the writer’s use of language and imagery Explain to you how structure supports the ideas of the poem
Top Revision Tips for English Literature Quiz your child on quotes. Students should remember a wide range of quotes from every examination text. In PPE seasons and Summer exam season, place quotes around the home is visible places.
Top Revision Tips for English Literature Read the exam text yourself so that you can discuss and debate alternative interpretations. Watch DVDs of the examination texts together as family. Film adaptations of all examination texts are available to be borrow for free from the EPHS Library.
Top Revision Tips for English Literature Read, read, read! The most active independent readers do gain the top grades. The Library have suggested reading lists of books to stretch your child and develop their reading journey. Re-read the exam texts and formulate your own ideas. Ideas that you have arrived at independently will often be phrased in a much more confident and assertive tone.
