The Nile -NE corner of Africa, longest in the world and oldest -White and Blue Nile -flows from the south to the north, ends in a large delta -flooded every year—deposits of silt -used for transportation and irrigation -most of the population lived and lives near the Nile River Valley

Nile Delta

Geography -divided into two regions—Upper Egypt—south and had a higher Elevation Lower Egypt—northern area from Pyramids to the delta, lower elevation -kingdom was very protected—Red and Mediterranean Seas to the E and N -desert on the W, S, E

Cities -largest cities :Alexandria, Cairo, Memphis, Thebes, Giza, Aswan

Three Kingdoms -Old Kingdom—Age of Pyramids, King Menes unites Upper and Lower

-Middle Kingdom-capital moved to Thebes, lots of foreign trade and irrigation

-New Kingdom—most powerful & wealthy period, conquered other areas, then taken over by Roman Empire
